Music is so important in our lives. Find the music that you like and listen to it
often. Try to listen to a great variety of songs and styles and enjoy them. Many
songs express how we feel and make us feel good inside. MUSIC IS A GREAT STRESS
RELIEVER! We don't listen to it enough. I personally don't like Heavy Metal. But my 18 year old daughter loves it and I have to respect her taste; I just don't like her to listen exclusively to negative songs. Some lyrics are repulsive, very degrading and mean (it's better to stay away from those songs). You have to learn to be selective. If you only listen to negative songs; songs that tell you how awful this world is, that there's nothing to live for, and complain about everything - they will just make you feel bad and depressed. Yes, some of these people must have very sad lives if all they can do is whine and complain. But there is also a lot of positive music out there. There are many songs with wonderful uplifting messages. So, my advice is, please be careful. We can be easily brainwashed by negative messages in songs, on the radio and on TV. That's why variety is important. Is like, if we only watch and listen to bad news day in and day out - how do you think we'll feel? We all have moments when we feel bad; but if we only concentrate in negative things all the time it will definitely affect our moods and our lives. Find enjoyment in music... not MISERY. I love to dance, especially to latin music; it really relieves my stress. Check it out! There are some great latin songs out there. Try to listen to good music and forget about your problems, pretend you are a little child and feel free. Don't be embarrased to dance - just have fun. I also like classical music. My husband and oldest daughter play the piano. Jessica used to play the electric guitar too (rock and heavy metal) and for a while dreamed of becoming a member of a rock band (she attended the "School of Rock" and played in several concerts) - she changed her mind and decided to pursue other dreams - she's now attending college and hasn't decided yet what to major in (she still has time to decide). I believe that it is good to play a musical instrument - it is good for the soul (like they say). Try it! Even if it's just playing drums. You can play an inexpensive instrument and see how you like it, experiment, it's really fun! My youngest, Natalie, loves to dance and sing and used to be in the school's choir - maybe one day she'll take voice lessons. When I was young I always wanted to take ballet and piano lessons, but my parents couldn't afford them; so when I was 25 years old (and working full-time) I decided to take dance lessons - it's never too late! Maybe one of these days I'll try the piano. If you really want to do something, the opportunity will come to you! Where there's a will there's a way... I lived in Latin America for many years (Colombia and Costa Rica) and always admired how easy it is for people there to dance with such expertise - music is in their blood. Music makes people forget about their troubles and pain, and it's definitely contagious. Become addicted to music but never ever to the wrong thing - you know what I mean... Addictions just show how bad you feel about yourself (how much "in pain" you are). Music has the power to make you happy (if you choose the right songs). "Music can be a powerful emotional force that makes you feel empowered and strong, happy and full of life" (Cheryl Richardson said this in "Take Time for Your Life").* Check some of Mariah Carey's songs, like "Hero", "Make It Happen", "When You Believe" and "Can't Take That Away". They have beautiful lyrics and are very inspirational. You can go to: http://www.seeklyrics.com/lyrics/Mariah-Carey/Hero.html and get the words and even listen to the songs. "Hero" There's a hero If you look inside your heart You don't have to be afraid Of what you are There's an answer If you reach into your soul And the sorrow that you know Will melt away (Chorus:) And then a hero comes along With the strength to carry on And you cast your fears aside And you know you can survive So when you feel like hope is gone Look inside you and be strong And you'll finally see the truth That a hero lies in you It's a long road When you face the world alone No one reaches out a hand For you to hold You can find love If you search within yourself And the emptiness you felt Will disappear (Chorus:) And then a hero comes along With the strength to carry on And you cast your fears aside And you know you can survive So when you feel like hope is gone Look inside you and be strong And you'll finally see the truth That a hero lies in you Lord knows Dreams are hard to follow But don't let anyone Tear them away Hold on There will be tomorrow In time You'll find the way (Chorus:) And then a hero comes along With the strength to carry on And you cast your fears aside And you know you can survive So when you feel like hope is gone Look inside you and be strong And you'll finally see the truth That a hero lies in you * Another favorite author of mine is Cheryl Richardson, check her out!
