Hi! My name is Karol and I'm the mother of two daughters - Jessica and Natalie (25 and 19 years old) and a High School teacher. I've been married to my husband Ben for 28 years and we have a very stable and loving relationship. Through the years we have learned many important lessons to help us become better persons and to find peace and happiness within ourselves and as a family, and I would like to share with you some of these lessons. I'll try my best to communicate to you what I believe to be true. I hope I can motivate you to embrace and celebrate life every day, to go after your dreams and to believe in yourself.

Life is not easy, I know. Life is a challenge! We come here to learn many challenging lessons (courage, patience, faith, love). I understand how difficult it is in this day and age to be able to have meaningful and loving relationships with your parents, your relatives, your teachers, your friends, your girlfriend or boyfriend, etc. We are all so busy in our lives, that we don't have the time to learn how and to make the extra effort that it takes to pursue our happiness. Our parents are also very busy, pursuing their careers and working very hard to make ends meet - and sometimes they simply cannot give us the attention that we require and would like to have. Many times we feel neglected. Most of our schools don't teach us enough life skills and values to help us become better persons - better citizens of this world.  But even though we are constantly bombarded with negative messages and feel that others are putting us down, I assure you that it is still possible for us to learn to be HAPPY (even if we don't have a lot of money, even if we don't look like a famous actor or actress); it is possible to be at peace with ourselves and others, and to believe in ourselves. We can create our own happiness and find inner peace, even when everything around us is chaos; but we have to learn how to accomplish this.

Patience is important, of course; but the main step is to learn to love and value ourselves! It sounds funny doesn't it? But the truth is that most of us have a hard time truly loving and respecting ourselves (this is why we allow others to demean us and treat us badly). We have a hard time believing in our great talents and potential, we put ourselves down constantly (even without realizing it - with negative words and actions), which in turn make us feel more miserable and angry and more vulnerable to become -or feel- victimized by others or to become self-destructive. More and more children and teenagers are having problems with depression, anxiety, panic attacks, eating disorders, and other mental illnesses (I worked in a Counseling Agency and I'm well aware of this very sad reality). More and more teenagers commit suicide and feel bad about themselves; they lack motivation and turn to violence or misery. Let's try together to inspire others to feel better; and learn to become the best person that we can be - discovering our talents and using them, assuming responsibility for our actions, and findind meaning in our lives. Let's learn to turn the world into a better place! We are here to make a difference!

In order to learn to love and accept others better we first have to learn to treat ourselves better (with love, respect, dignity, compassion and understanding). We also have to learn not to take things so personally and to teach others how to treat us (without insulting them). Insecure people will always try to make us feel bad and put us down - it is their problem! We have to learn not to feel resentment for every little thing and to get rid of negative thoughts and emotions. No one is perfect, we all have our weaknesses and peculiarities. Let's learn to accept others with their imperfections; let's learn to forgive others and ourselves for our faults; let's learn to respect and love one another (unconditionally); let's learn to be patient and tolerant, kind and compassionate; let's learn to be in touch with our inner feelings and to ask for what we want; let's learn to communicate properly; let's learn to concentrate in the good qualities of others; let's learn to be positive and happy, let's learn to act responsibly and develop self-discipline in our lives, etc. So... how do we learn all these lessons?

I'll try my best to tell you some of the lessons I have learned in my life; but there are many great books out there that can also give us great advice. I'll mention to you some of the ones I have read and find valuable. I don't have all the answers but I am certainly hoping that I can inspire you to look for help if you need it (talk to your friends, a therapist, your parents, your teachers, a counselor, a priest, a rabbi, a nun or any other persons you can trust) - don't ever feel bad asking for advice and help (we all need these). Most importantly - don't forget to pray... You can also go to any library or bookstore and check the "Self-Help" or "Self-Improvement" section, and you'll find some great books to suit your taste and needs. And there are some great Web sites too. Even some movies and songs have great messages to give us. You have to know that there are some wonderful people out there willing to listen to you and willing to help you, people that really care. We can learn a lot from others and if you work a little bit at it, you'll learn to feel better about yourself and you'll learn to believe that you are beautiful, unique and wonderful and that YOU DESERVE ALL THE HAPPINESS IN THE WORLD! BECAUSE YOU MATTER... BECAUSE YOU ARE VERY SPECIAL...! (don't ever forget that!)
